This is why you can't see your own forehead
Almost everyone I talk to is about 90% of the way there with their business or side hustle.
Their strategy, their content, their offers...
But that final 10% is actually where all the results live.
It's like being that person who spends hours making an incredible meal but forgets to add salt.
Or builds an entire swimming pool but doesn't connect the water.
Or writes an entire email newsletter but forgets to include the lin—
You get the idea.
I call this the "90% There" Syndrome, and it's probably affecting you right now without you even realising it.
The almost-right positioning
You know that feeling when you try to explain what you do to someone at a party and their eyes immediately glaze over?
Or worse, they say "oh that's interesting" in THAT tone?
That's the 90% syndrome in action.
Your positioning is almost right.
You're almost explaining it clearly.
You almost know who your ideal client is.
But "almost" means you're explaining what you do for 17 minutes straight while your conversation partner is mentally planning their grocery list.
It's like having the world's comfiest shoes with a tiny pebble inside.
Everything seems fine but something is just... off.
The pricing that's juuuust wrong enough
Let's talk about your pricing. I don't know what you charge, but I'm willing to bet real money that it's:
A) Too low for the value you provide B) Somehow still feels "expensive" to explain C) Structured in a way that makes you constantly question it
Your pricing is probably sitting in what I call the "valley of death" – too expensive to be an easy yes, but too cheap to be taken seriously.
So you're working twice as hard to convince people of something that should be obvious, all while making half what you should.
The content that's almost great
And don't even get me started on content creation.
You're probably creating content that's juuuust missing the mark without realising it.
Your hooks focus on problems that sound good to you but make your ideal clients go "meh."
Your delivery is either slightly too formal or slightly too casual for your audience.
You're posting consistently but at the exact times when your audience isn't online.
So close, yet so, so far.
Why you can't see your own 10%
Some of the most brilliant, hardworking people I know suffer from "90% There" Syndrome.
It happens because:
You're too close to your own business. Like trying to see your own forehead without a mirror. Good luck with that.
You're an expert in what you do. And expert blindness is real – you literally cannot see what's obvious to others because your brain filters it out.
You've already tried "everything." So your brain stops looking for solutions in certain areas. "I've optimised my LinkedIn profile 37 times, that can’t be the problem!" (Narrator: It was, in fact, the problem.)
You're unconsciously avoiding the real issue. Sometimes we don't see the final 10% because it would require uncomfortable changes. Like admitting your "unique" approach isn't actually that unique. Ouch.
This is why I'm such a broken record about the power of community.
Because that final 10% – the part that makes all the difference – is usually instantly visible to others who aren't trapped in your business bubble.
The real gap in your business
I've realised that the gap between struggling and successful businesses isn't usually:
Knowledge (you probably know enough already)
Hard work (you're likely working too hard actually)
Talent (you've got plenty of that)
Luck (though it never hurts)
The real gap is that final 10% clarity that you simply cannot see for yourself.
That's exactly what our weekly Power Hours in the Think Like A Creator community are designed to do – we're the friends who will absolutely tell you about the the hole in your strategy, and the problem with your pricing.
Because that's what actual growth requires – people who will point out what you cannot see yourself.
If you've been working hard but feel like something's still missing in your business – if you're so close but just can't break through – you probably don't need more information.
You need outside eyes on your business from people who get it.
Our 14-day risk-free trial means you can join us for two Power Hours to see if we can spot your missing 10%.
If we can't, you haven't risked anything.
But if we can?
It could be the difference between another year of hitting your head against the same wall and finally breaking through.
Remember, the creator mindset is all you need to grow 🌱

P.S. Cool update: I’ve been asked to speak in Malta at the “Ahead of the Game” Business Leaders conference. I’ll be starting the day off with a keynote all about the ‘behind the scenes’ of Arcade, The Sidemen and everything else we’ve been building over the last 4-5 years. Should be a good one! 🤞
