How to sell yourself
End your week inspired
Hello and happy Friday,
This week, a few things on selling yourself…
One thought
Humans are self-centred.
We have a far keener grasp of our own story than anyone else’s.
It means we overcomplicate things when explaining who we are, what we do.
And when we confuse other people, they are much less likely to take action — and offer opportunities.

This branding is a nightmare for consumers.

You’re not immediately sure if it’s normal Nutella.
Many marketing ideas will sound great to people who work on them every day.
But in practice, they cause confusion and reduce sales.
The same applies in networking.
One rule
Can you communicate your (personal) brand’s central message in fewer than ten words?
I can for mine:
I manage the Sidemen and advocate for young people.
This simplicity makes it easier for people to talk about you when you’re not around.
That’s rocket fuel for being front-of-mind for opportunities.
And finally, one last thing:
90% of humans name a primary colour when asked to name any hue.
Don’t be ecru or elephant’s breath.
Be red, yellow or blue.
