Freely offering value
End your week inspired
Hello and happy Friday,
This week, a few things around freely offering value:
Two thoughts
I
I’ve found the best opportunities come not from asking, but giving.
People who stand out offer something tangible.
Not simply their skills or enthusiasm (though those are vital).
But their hard work, delivered through something they’ve already created.
II
Some emails make you think, ‘Wow, this person is so impressive!’
Others make you think, ‘I need this person — they would make my life so much easier.’
The former sometimes leads to opportunities.
The latter always leads to opportunities.
One image
Oseola McCarty, a washerwoman from Mississippi, who died in 1999:

Refusing even to buy a car, she secretly saved her entire life and left $150,000 to a local university in her will.
This selfless act was rewarded with national fame and an award from the White House.
More of us can probably spend an hour thinking about how we can help others…
One statistic
74% of employees report greater job satisfaction when they have opportunities to make a positive impact.
Your career will benefit from giving.
But so will your head.
And finally, One Last Thing:
Giving freely is not the same as being a pushover.
Offer your work to others — but also be direct about what you seek.
Make their life easy by making sure they know how to repay you.
