MrBeast's billion-dollar move

MrBeast lost $80 million last year.

Yep, lost.

Despite making hundreds of millions in revenue from chocolate, AdSense, and brand deals.

Wild, right?

But - I'm calling it now.

His newest project is going to be the one that changes the profitability of Beast Industries, and weirdly, nobody seems to be talking about it.

The power of building your own IP

MrBeast has teamed up with James Patterson (yes, THE James Patterson worth $800 million who's sold over 300 million books) to write a thriller novel.

The working title?

"The Most Dangerous Game" - a Squid Game-esque thriller where "players fight to survive deadly tests held in dangerous locations around the world as they battle to become the one."

Sound familiar?

It should.

MrBeast's biggest video ever was his Squid Game remake, and Beast Games on Amazon followed a similar format.

Basically, if you can create your own scripted universe and people are drawn into it and love it, you have so much creative potential.

Think about the biggest formats in the world – whether it's Harry Potter, the Marvel universe, any of these – they come from scripted IP to begin with.

They come from fiction.

And if you can build that fictional world, create characters that people connect with, and write them brilliantly (hello, James Patterson), then pair that with MrBeast's incredible social audience... you've got a really compelling proposition.

The numbers

Let's talk $$$ for a second:

  • The Hunger Games franchise: $3.3 BILLION

  • Harry Potter franchise: $25 BILLION

$25 billion with a B.

And while JK Rowling originally got turned down 10-15 times by publishers, MrBeast won't have that issue.

He's got the audience already - which is what most books struggle with at the start.

There's already an eight-figure bidding war for the rights to this book.

Companies are throwing tens of millions at MrBeast and James Patterson for a book that just has a working title.

The book's not even written yet!

Why this is genius

Film studios and TV executives look at it and go, "Well, we've got a potential audience of X. How many will potentially convert? What's the value of that?"

With the combined numbers of James Patterson (book sales) and MrBeast (followers and subscribers), it's probably one of the most compelling packages ever assembled.

The traditional path works like this:

  1. Books serve as the test case

  2. If people love the books, it gets adapted for film/TV

  3. If the adaptations hit, you've got a franchise

But the real genius here is that if this series becomes big enough to stand separately from Jimmy, you solve the biggest challenge facing creator businesses – key person risk.

When your business is completely tied to you as a creator, scaling is limited.

But when you create IP that can exist without you (think Harry Potter, Hunger Games, etc.), it becomes infinitely scalable.

Most people today probably couldn’t tell you who wrote Hunger Games or Twilight.

The IP has taken on a life of its own.

And that's where you want to be - with IP that's independent, because then it's infinitely scalable.

Lessons for every creator

I'm excited about this honestly.

Because I'm genuinely interested in the creator-scripted world.

Scripted content is hard.

It requires a skill set very different from what YouTubers and creators typically have.

It also requires writers, script editors, and teams of people.

It's an expensive process.

That's why everyone typically goes to documentaries and unscripted content first.

But when creators can leverage scripted IP, they can really win big.

So, is MrBeast running out of money?

No, he's not running out of anything.

He's got endless potential.

His profitability will be driven by his own desire for wealth versus scale and growth.

He lets go of profitability because he wants to grow more, be bigger, be the best.

And clearly, it's working.
