Importance of initiative

End your week inspired

Hello and happy Friday,

This week, the importance of initiative

One thought

Attitude and initiative are everything.

I have worked with Oxbridge graduates who lack initiative and ask obvious questions.

I have worked with 18 year olds who just get things done.

The latter is 100x more valuable.

One statistic

According to Harvard research, high-agency individuals are four times more likely to get promoted than their high-intellect co-workers.

Everyone, without fail, loves working with people who make their lives easier.

One story

A while ago I asked two copywriters to send me ideas for a social post for a new account we were launching.

I wanted to hire one of them.

Within a day, one of them had written a weekly content calendar and two example posts.

Probably 90 minutes work.

The other replied two days later, and requested five examples of what we were looking for.

Can you guess who got the job?

And finally, one last thing:

The nub of this is empathy.

You’re working with another human being — someone who’s already stressed, busy, tired.

Imagine their mindset, and it’s simple.

They want solutions, not problems.
