How to lose $6bn and keep going (TLAC Success Story #001)

From this week, we're changing up the newsletter format. You'll now get four editions each week, alternating between success stories and actionable insights.

Success stories (like today's) will break down real examples of the creator mindset in action. Not just what happened, but what you can actually learn from it.

Actionable insights will be deep dives into specific strategies and techniques - the 'how to' stuff that you can apply straight away.

Both types will follow the same structure:

  • The core lesson up front

  • A real example that proves it

  • A quick win you can action this week

Let me know what you think about this change using the poll at the end of the email!

Oh and by the way - If you're new here and want to understand more about how the creator mindset grows businesses, I recorded a 10-minute masterclass that breaks it all down. Check it out here before we dive in:

The lesson:

Sometimes the best thing your business can teach you is how to build your next one.

Real example:

This clicked for me when I learned about Nigel Eccles and FanDuel this week.

Fanduel

He's a Scottish founder who built one of America's biggest betting apps:

  • 12 million members

  • $6 billion in annual revenue

  • One of only three Scottish unicorns ever

But in 2018, FanDuel was sold to Flutter for $559 million - way below its actual value of $1.2 billion.

After their private equity partners structured the deal, Nigel and his founding team walked away with virtually nothing from the empire they built.

They're now in court fighting for damages between $300-700 million.

But instead of letting this derail them, they started over.

They've just launched BetHog, a crypto casino platform that's already showing promise.

As Nigel puts it: "BetHog looks very similar to what we saw with fantasy sports early on. You always shoot for another."

They didn't replicate FanDuel.

They looked at where the market was heading and adapted their expertise for what's next.

Quick win:

Here's something practical you can do this week…

Take 30 minutes to map out the three biggest setbacks you've faced in business or job.

For each one, write down:

  • What it taught you about your market

  • What skills you gained from handling it

  • What opportunities it opened up that you couldn't see at the time

Then look for patterns.

You'll start seeing how each "failure" was actually preparing you for something bigger.

Want to run your business strategy through our Think Like A Creator framework?

It'll help you identify:

↳ Where your biggest growth opportunities are

↳ Which creator principles you should focus on first

↳ How to turn your setbacks into leverage

I built this framework from 10 years of working with the Sidemen and other creator-led businesses that have grown from zero to multiple 8-figures.

It's exactly what we use in our community Power Hours to help members get unstuck and find their edge.

Remember, the creator mindset is all you need to grow 🌱
