Expand your network

End your week inspired

Hello and happy Friday!

This week, a few honest truths on expanding your network:

Two thoughts

I

To access a whole world of opportunity, you don’t need loads of connections.

You need one.

One well-connected person who can introduce you to all their connections.

Would you rather know 100 middle managers at Amazon, or Jeff Bezos?

II

Most people will only introduce you to others if they trust you’ll make them look good.

If that sounds unfair, that’s because it is.

People are self-interested and busy.

If you want a powerful network, aura is always more important than credentials.

Jamie Oliver, just before he was signed for his first TV show.

He was spotted by a producer during a documentary recording.

They didn’t care whether he was the best chef in the place.

They cared that he had the right vibe.

One piece of advice

The number of opportunities offered to me skyrocketed since I began growing my personal brand.

And by personal brand, I mostly mean LinkedIn.

If you’re not posting at least 3 times a week on the platform, you are actively missing out opportunities.

And finally, one last thing:

80% of your time is spent speaking to the same 6 people.

Make sure you pick the right 6 people.
