Building a legacy

End your week inspired

Hello and happy Friday,

This week, a few things on building a legacy:

One quote

George Bernard Shaw

“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community.

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live.”

Two thoughts

1.

Legacy is a paradox.

On one hand, almost none of us will be remembered a hundred years after our deaths.

On the other, the only important thing we can do is provide for those that outlast us.

2.

Kindly but deliberately cut out any relationships that don’t fulfil you.

There’s no time to waste on them.

One image

The first ever photograph, taken in 1826 by French inventor Nicéphore Niépce:

He died just a few years later, the technology not taken seriously.

Legacy is not the same as glory.

One piece of research

The top 5 regrets of dying people, according to palliative care clinics, are:

1. "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."

2. “I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings."

3. "I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends."

4. “I wish that I had let myself be happier."

5. “I wish I hadn't worked so hard."

And finally, One Last Thing:

Legacy comes in a multitude of forms.

It is not a cop-out to prioritise relationships over ‘success’.

After all, compare regret 3. with regret 5.

Congratulations to KSI (JJ) on building his legacy last weekend. From a kid in his bedroom, to the ring with professionals. The result doesn’t matter when the stage is so big.

Speak in a week,
