5 truths about becoming a creator going into 2025
Quick heads up before we jump in – If you haven’t already, be sure to grab my ‘7 Steps to 7 Figures Checklist’ (the exact 28 questions I use to write strategy for The Sidemen and more) here:

Let's have some real talk today.
Every week, I get DMs from people wanting to become creators.
They see the Sidemen's success, the Netflix deals, the sold-out shows.
But here's what most people don't see: The reality behind the headlines.
So today, I'm sharing what I wish someone had told me years ago.
No sugar coating.
First up: The money thing
Let's get this out of the way: the average creator makes about $23,500 per year.
Yeah. Let that sink in.
That's not nothing – but it's probably not the life-changing number you were expecting.
And with more people than ever fighting for attention?
That number isn't going up.
I'm not saying this to discourage you.
I'm saying it because you need to be in this for the right reasons.
Know your weaknesses
Here's something I've noticed managing creators:
The ones who excel fastest?
They're crystal clear on what they're not good at.
But here's the key – they don't let it stop them.
They find experts to help fill those gaps.
Can't afford a team yet? That's completely normal.
Find mentors instead.
The sooner you can build a network of people to help and learn from, the quicker you'll grow.
The best part?
The creator community is actually incredibly supportive.
People want to help.
You just have to be honest about what you need.
"I'll start when..."
You know what separates the biggest creators I work with from everyone else?
They weren't precious about their first posts.
They weren't waiting for perfect.
They just... started.
That's literally it.
You have:
A phone with a camera
Free social platforms
The entire internet as your audience
What's stopping you?
The REAL secret weapon
Want to know what actually matters?
Community.
Not followers
Not views
Not likes
Community.
I've seen creators with millions of followers struggle to sell out a venue.
Then watched creators with smaller, more engaged communities sell out tours.
The math is simple:
Real community > Big audience
Focus on building genuine connections with your audience.
Everything else follows.
The truth about "overnight success"
Final piece of real talk:
Every "overnight success" I've worked with?
They were grinding for 5-10 years first.
Yes, there are exceptions.
No, you're probably not one of them.
(Neither was I, by the way.)
The good news?
Time passes anyway.
Might as well spend it building something.
Here's what it comes down to:
If you're in this for:
Quick money
Instant fame
Easy work
You're going to be disappointed.
But if you're in it for:
Creative freedom
Building something real
Connecting with people
Playing the long game
Then maybe, just maybe, you've got what it takes.
